jeffrey paid for lunch today.  this could potentially save me up to $60 a week!

a new york minute...

it's been something of a whirlwind since last monday when my last class ended.  on friday, i moved into temporary housing for the summer while i try to find a more permanent place.  its quite nice actually.  i now live on the 14th floor (the BEST), the ceilings are super high,  and there are no mosquitos!  i've helped other people move, sent perfect english e-mails to various internships for the koreans, and generally tried to get my affairs in order before i started my internship today.  honestly, i wish i had a few more days to myself, but today was actually pretty great.

ah yes, i now have an AAS degree in fashion design from FIT. yay.  speaking of which, i need to find out how to pick that up...

anyway.

about my first day...it was almost perfect.  first of all, jeffrey's aesthetic is quite similar to mine.  secondly, he's set up a great system for himself where all he does is design.  he has a team of other people throughout manhattan who work on production, business, and all those other less pleasant things for him.  third, he doesn't seem to overwork himself like many other designers. in fact, he almost seems kind of lazy for a designer.  he comes to work comparatively late at 10 AM and the atmosphere in his studio isn't frantic.  he also doesn't seem to work weekends or holidays.  fourth, i actually did things today.  like...important things.  i worked on his fall 2009 line sheet (a summary of every piece in the collection that's going into production), sent fabric with color standards to be dyed, and went to the garment district to cut fabric swatches for his upcoming resort collection, where i saw a real cutting room for the first time.  and last but not least, he gave me an unlimited monthly metro card for FREE!  with the recent price hike, those things cost over $100 a month, so that was very nice of him.

i sound like a little kid right now, but the work i did today was fascinating to me.  if i could work like him, i could stay in fashion with a good conscience.

i'm so happy that koreatown is open 24 hours, especially during finals week.  from this past monday to friday, i've slept for a total of 12 hours.  after monday though, i'm done!
